About

Black and White photography provides a different way of viewing the world. I become more aware of light quality, textures, repetitions, juxtapositions and my surroundings in general. The darkroom work rewards me each time the image in my mind becomes a reality with chemistry and light. The medium can be frustrating at times, but also presents great satisfaction when everything falls into place. There is no instant gratification with this process, but there are often pleasant surprises.

I make all sorts of photographs. I experiment with many cameras, combine and layer negatives to create strange, humorous images. I even work with digital through a point and shoot digital camera and more recently a mirrorless system, scanning and Adobe Photoshop. However, black and white photography provides quiet moments for creative inspiration which allows a restoration of calm in my life.

"To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place. I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them."
